How To Fix Scratches On Frosted Glass

Are you frustrated with the slight scratches on your glass window, mirror or shower door? These are often small imperfections that can take away from the overall look of your home. Luckily, there are a number of ways to repair these glass imperfections!

Scrub The Scratches

The frosted glass on your mirror, tabletop or picture frame may have a light scratch that’s making it look dull. You can fix this problem by polishing the scratch out with a few simple methods. The first thing to do is scrub your frosted glass using a non-acidic cleaner. An alkaline cleaning agent (pH higher than 7) is a good choice since it breaks up mineral deposits and grime easier than acids. Next, gently wipe the glass with a lint-free cloth or sponge. Do this at least once a week. And to avoid scratches on your frosted glass, be sure to wear gloves before scrubbing it. This will keep your hands from drying out, which can make the surface more prone to scratching.

Fill In The Scratches

When you have a glass scratch, it’s important to fill in the area. This will stop the scratch from showing up and also make the area look better. One easy way to do this is with a little metal polish. You can dip a rag into it and rub the scratches in circular motions. This is a great way to make your glass look like new again, and it’s a great DIY solution! Just be careful with how much polish you use, and always start with clean glass. And if the scratches are too deep, you may need to call in a professional. These methods are best used for light, surface scratches, and they won’t work on any type of deeper scratching.

Buff The Scratches

To buff small scratches on frosted glass, you can use a product that contains cerium oxide. It’s safe for use on tempered glass and can be applied with a polishing pad and electric buffer. If the scratch isn’t very deep, you can also try using a rag dampened with polish in circular motions over the area. Stop checking after 30 seconds to see if the scratches lighten up or disappear completely. Another easy way to buff out scratches is with baking soda. Combine one part water with one part baking soda to create a paste. Apply the paste to a clean cloth and gently buff into the scratches, moving in circular motions.
